Dry needling is similar to contemporary acupuncture in that the same type of needles are used and many of the treatment goals can be the same. Dry needling is highly effective at releasing painful trigger points in muscles to allow improved movement. When indicated, it can be combined with electrical stimulation to activate inhibited muscles. This treatment technique increases blood flow and promotes healing and can also assist in breakdown of scar tissue.
